Two Ghanaian celebrities, one a comedian (Derrick Kobina Bonney a.k.a DKB) and the other an actor (Prince David Osei) have crossed paths with each other about how the cedi has speedily appreciated against the dollar.
Just this week, the Ghana cedi has appreciated against the US dollar.
December 13, 2022, the US dollar depreciated and traded against the cedi at a buying rate of 11.4942 and a selling price of 11.5057.
Before the cedi appreciated against the US dollar, 1 dollar was selling at GHC14.00 which caused many Ghanaians and business owners to increase the prices of goods and services.
As a result of this, the cost of living in the country rose.
But the good news for most Ghanaians is that economy is getting back on its feet and Price David Osei took to Twitter to express his joy over the good news.
“Hallelujah the Cedi is appreciating remarkably. 9.56ghc to a 1$. The economy is gradually getting back on track!! Now we need to see the effect in our daily lives, goods and services.. God bless ????????”
DKB on the other hand argued that the new development on the cedi isn’t worth celebrating since the appreciation of the cedi it hasn't affected the prices of goods and services.
“A reducing exchange rate with no correlating reduction on food prices and fuel prices is useless,” DKB replied to the Prince's post.
DKB response generated a heated argument with Prince David Osei.
“So would you have preferred the cedi went up to 20ghc per $ before the end of the year? We know we have issues as a country but let’s be hopeful for the small changes we seeing?” Prince David Osei also replied DKB.
DKB in another response bashed Prince David Osei for being committed and owing allegiance to the NPP government which is why he is celebrating small victories.
“You have no option but to celebrate small victories because you have committed to them and you owe allegiance. I don't owe allegiance to any party, I talk for Ghanaians. Until prices reduce and cash burden on us goes down, we won't celebrate any damn small Victories! Tueh!" DKB said.
