 Be cautious of music deals you sign – Bisa K’dei tells fellow musicians

Ghanaian highlife artiste, Bisa K’dei has cautioned his fellow artists be vigilant when it comes to signing music deals.

While speaking in an interview with one of Ghana’s entertainment journalists Kwame Dadzie, Bisa K’dei insisted that being an independent artist is the best decision if compared to signing a deal with the record label.

 “It’s my view, but I think. Don’t sell yourself short.” He said.

“You can have a record deal, maybe you can have a distribution agreement; it depends on the contract.” He added.

Explaining his statement to ‘give oneself away’ he said;

“The point is that you may sell your complete collection to a record company and you’re still selling yourself.”

Bisa was asked whether it is a bad decision for an artist to sell their music collection to a record label even if they will earn millions of dollars.

 Bisa answered saying:

“That US$2 million is not enough for an artist to give a record label access to your music library even though the deal looks attractive.”

“I’m not going to lie to you. I’ve received offers, but I turned them down because I don’t want to give my catalog away.”

“It’s crucial that you maintain it as a musician. That is why I argued that being an independent artist was ideal.” He concluded.
