One of Ghana’s highlife artist Akwaboah has made some claims about Ghanaian young star Black Sherif concerning the kind of genre he does.
According to the singer, most of Black Sherif’s songs if critically listened to falls in the highlife category instead of hip-hop tags placed on his songs.
Akwaboah’s comment comes after Kwabena Kwabena also shared his displeasure about how people tag Black Sherif’s songs as hip-hop.
Speaking on Joy FM’s morning show, Akwaboah explained that if Black Sherif was focused on doing highlife, highlife would gain more respect from music lovers living in the diaspora and this will cause highlife to have a chance to compete with other genres.
“When you listen to the way Black Sherif sings, I would categorize majority of his songs as highlife, but it seems he has been forced into hip-hop.”
“Imagine naming what he is producing highlife, highlife will be placed on the map. Yet, it seems as though we are driving him toward hip-hop and afrobeats instead.”
