Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest has urged music lovers not to push their favorite artists to be voices they wish for outside their music career.
According to the rapper, pushing artists to add their voices to political and social issues causes the artist to be at a place they are not psychologically ready.
And this act may not interest a lot artists because that is not their preferred field even though there are few who can easily fit into anything they find themselves in.
Any artist who fails to get into any political group’s activities requested by fans should be respected by their decisions.
Speaking at the Creative Economy and Our Collective Future and Development’s 75th Anniversary the rapper said;
“Imagine Adele tried to do Kendrick Lamar’s ‘We gon’ be alright’. Not every artist is supposed to be a voice for you outside of their music.”
“They might not even have the capability. You don’t develop that capability overnight to be able to have a clarity of thoughts about social issues, your political views, and ideology.”
“It is very different from being able to put a song together that’s a rallying cry.”
anifest’s statement comes in after Nigerians called out of their music stars, Burna Boy to add his voice to Nigeria’s elections after it was reported there were some misunderstandings at some polling stations.
Burna Boy shared his frustration on social media explaining to the public he can never do what the masses expect him to do because he is doing what he loves.
“I dunno why it’s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I’ve not been vocal about the elections.”
Speaking about Burna Boy’s behaviour M.anifest said;
“If you want your access to speak for you, learn to uplift artists that have the capability because not every artist is supposed to be that.”
