Creativity has no limit; We can’t be represented by highlife only as a country – Daddy Bosco

Consultant Head of Communications and Special Projects for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), charted marketer and broadcaster, Daddy Bosco says he disagrees with people projecting highlife as the only genre that represents Ghana to the world.

According to Daddy Bosco, choosing only highlife as the nation’s genre is very limiting because countries in the Western world are represented by many genres.

Citing some examples he said;  country, RnB, jazz, and others are all American genres so Ghana can’t choose one genre to represent the country.

Explaining further, he said highlife has some western influence so musicians should be given the chance  to experiment with other rhythms.

“As a nation we need to appreciate that it is sort of generational. So the kids today sing more with hiplife and the derivatives like Afrobeats. The other day I was hearing someone say Amapiano highlife”

“The point I am making is that as a people we will not be represented by only highlife. What we need to do is to open up to our creativity.”

“Because the conversation shows what we call highlife today is a fusion of African rhythms and western rhythms, played with western instruments.” He added.

Afrobeats dominance in the music world has sparked many conversations about the kind of genre Ghanaian musicians do.

Ghanaians believe highlife was birthed in Ghana and this gives the country an identity when it comes to music genres.
