It will be more beneficial to offer a portion of Black Stars money to the arts industry - Gary Al-Smith

One of Joy News’ sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith has made an opinion on why the creative arts industry needs a portion of Black Stars money to solve some of it problems.

According to Gary, if the creative arts industry is given a portion of Black Stars money, the country will have huge returns because it will be invested in creatives.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Twitter Space, Gary announced that he is in support of highlife artist Dada Hafco’s comment which challenges government to channel resources into the creative arts industry instead of giving all attention and resources to the Black Stars.

Explaining this comment, he said the Black Stars has being very wasteful in the past years and every money invested in them should be directed to entertainment industry.

“I would be one of those who would be probably controversially say that from 2006 till now, perhaps if we had strategically advocated like the way Dada Hafco has started and gave a little portion of what we spend on the Black Stars to the entertainment we might have gotten a bit more because the truth be told the return on investment in entertainment has probably been more in terms of direct jobs created, indirect jobs created and putting food on the table of local economies. The Black Stars does not come close for that.”

“Almost every tournament  we have gone and brought yawa; one scandal after the other.”

Talking about why the Black Stars easily gets what they want he said;

“Even in football the Black Stars is always the pampered child. The Black Stars get disproportionate amount of support even to the detriment of other teams.”

Gary urged stakeholders of the creative arts industry to be more proactive when it comes to lobbying for their needs.
